Race Hots Up for Premier League Golden Boot Award

As many as eight players are potentially still in with a chance of collecting the golden boot award come the end of the Premier League campaign, with Sergio Aguero, Mohamed Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang having all found the back of the net 19 times in the top-flight to date. However, Sadio Mane, Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane are still well in the mix too, meaning that there is still plenty to play for during the final weeks of the season, both individually and as teams.

It is Salah who is the current favourite to make it back to back successes in this area, with the Egyptian having three matches left in order to ensure that he retains the trophy, as well as lifting the Premier League title. Despite having not been at his brilliant best for large parts of the campaign, Salah can be backed at odds of 7/4 with bookmaker William Hill to win the Golden Boot once again, having scored a massive 32 goals during the 17/18 season.

Whoever wins the award this season could do so with the fewest number of goals since back in 2011, when Dimitar Berbatov scored 20 times for Manchester United. 25 or more goals have been required in order to win the award for the last seven seasons, however there has not been one standout attacker this time around.

Golden Boot Award 2019: Who Will Win?

As a result, the likes of Mane, Sterling and Kane, along with Eden Hazard and Jamie Vardy retain an outside hope of adding significantly to their current tallies. Of the players mentioned, Liverpool’s Mane is well worth an outside bet, with the Senegalese attacker having been in excellent form for Jurgen Klopp’s side over recent months. The 27-year-old can be backed at odds of 7/1 at Betfred.

Elsewhere, despite being just two goals behind the leading pack, Spurs frontman Kane is unlikely to feature in the Premier League again this season, having been injured in their Champions League clash with Manchester City.
