Bundesliga Title Race Goes Down to the Wire
In what has been one of the closest title races in the German top-flight for many years, both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund go into the final round of matches harbouring hopes of coming out on top. Having won the Bundesliga title for the last six seasons, Bayern hold a two-point advantage over their fierce rivals, meaning that a victory will guarantee that Niko Kovac’s side will once again be crowned the best team in Germany.
Bayern host Europa League semi-finalists Eintracht Frankfurt on the final day of the campaign, whilst Dortmund face a tricky away trip to Borussia Monchengladbach. As a result, it comes as little surprise that it is the league leaders who are the firm favourites to hold onto top spot, with bookmaker William Hill offering odds of 1/66 for this eventuality. However, given some of the shocks in which we have seen in European football over recent weeks, it may well be worth betting on another shock, with Dortmund winning the title being available at a best price of 16/1 with Betfair.
It is also worth keeping in mind that Bayern have surprisingly never secured the title on home soil, having always done so away from the Allianz Arena. As a result, there will either be 75,000 very happy or extremely dejected faces this weekend. With Frankfurt themselves looking to secure their place in the Europa League for next season, it could well be an entertaining affair in the German capital on Saturday afternoon.
The attacking duo of Ante Rebic and Luka Jovic will be hoping to continue their impressive form this season, with the latter having seemingly all but secured a summer move to Real Madrid thanks to his 17 league goals to date. Dortmund will certainly be hoping that this is the case, however Lucien Favre’s side must focus upon defeating Monchengladbach on the road, something which will be easier said than done. Former Gladbach man Marco Reus will be one of the main attacking threats for the visitors, with the 29-year-old being the 9/2 favourite with BetVictor to open the scoring. Elsewhere, Christian Pulisic and Jadon Sancho could play their final matches for the club this weekend, with the latter having been linked with a move to Manchester United, whilst Pulisic has already agreed a switch to Chelsea.
