France World Cup 2022 – Latest Team News and Statistics
Based on the group stage, France look like one of the biggest contenders for the World Cup. Les Bleus woke up in time in their opening game against Australia after an early counter-goal by Craig Goodwin and eventually won easily 4-1. In match two, Kylian Mbappé took his country by the hand, scoring two goals against Denmark (2-1).
In the third match at the 2022 World Cup, France faced Tunisia. Only a heavy defeat could keep Didier Deschamps’ team from winning the group. The coach therefore rested many players, with an eye on the knockout phase. Tunisia surprisingly took the lead after an hour and eventually pulled off the victory. Substitutes Mbappé and Antoine Griezmann were unable to turn the tide.
Against Australia, France had to say goodbye to Lucas Hernández early in the match, who suffered a serious knee injury and will be out of action this season. The French hardly lost quality, as his brother Theo Hernández replaced him. The only thing Les Bleus still lack is a clean sheet. Hugo Lloris had to fish once in all group games.
Poland World Cup 2022 – Latest Team News and Statistics
Poland qualified for the eighth final of the 2022 World Cup with some fortune. It lost the final group match 2-0 to Argentina and therefore depended on the other duel in the pool, between Saudi Arabia and Mexico. Prior to their mutual encounter, both countries still had a chance of qualifying for the last 16.
For a long time, the Poles owed their second place only to the fair play ranking, until Saudi Arabia made it 1-2 deep in injury time. Robert Lewandowski and consorts thus joined the last 16 with four points and just two goals, two points behind the Argentines.
Poland accounted for 30 goals in 10 qualifying matches, but 19 of them fell against puny Andorra and San Marino. Before the defeat against Argentina, goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny had scored four goals. Incidentally, at the World Cup he already stopped two penalty kicks, including Lionel Messi’s.
France – Poland Previous encounters
France and Poland have not played each other very often in recent years. The encounter at the 2022 World Cup will be only the fourth of this century. Poland did not score in the last three duels against the French, losing 1-0 twice. In 1982, the two countries also played each other at a World Cup. In the battle for third place, the Poles then won 3-2.
