In one of the ties of the round, Red Bull Salzburg welcome Rijeka to Austria for the first-leg of the thrid round of Champions League qualification. Both sides impressed in the last round and unlike some of the match-ups at this stage, it is difficult to pick a winner between these two.
RB Salzburg has started off their season well, picking up one win from one game in the Austrian Bundesliga. Meanwhile Rijeka completely outclassed TNS in the last round. The Welsh side were simply no match for their Croatian counterparts.
Both sides are full of stars and excellent up-and-comers, so if you only watch one Champions League qualifier on Wednesday, we’d advise you to make it this one.
Red Bull Salzburg’s form
The Austrian side has had the perfect start to the season, winning their only league tie against RC Pellets WAC by two goals to nil. They were excellent in that game and looked every inch of a side that is worthy of their place in the Champions League.
Prior to that, they came out 6-0 winners against Hibernians in the last round of Champions League qualifying. They really have been brushing aside all counterparts in a seriously strong fashion. RB Salzburg are a side that seem to have it all together right now.
The Croatian side were equally impressive in their Champions League qualifying match. They batted away TNS with relative ease. The Welsh Champions just couldn’t live with the skill and pace of their Croatian counterparts. Rijeka are a good side and we have no doubt that they will give Salzburg some problems at the back. This side are particularly strong on the counter-attack, so keep an eye on them attacking with pace.
The winner of this round goes onto the fourth qualifying round of the Champions League and that’s where things really get interesting. Heavyweights from Europe’s top league enter the competition at that stage.
For instance, the likes of Liverpool will be in the draw for the fourth round of qualifying. Thus, the pressure is really on for these two sides as the financial rewards after getting through this round really do multiply. This game is guaranteed to be a close one, so instead of arbitrarily picking a winner, we are going to go with a draw instead. This is priced at a sumptuous 13/5 with Coral and we really do think it is the most likely outcome from the game in Austria.
Both sides are incredibly evenly matched and we are sure that they will just rule the other one out with their similar skillsets. It’s a massive game and neither manager will want to lose, so we also envisage negative tactics, which make the draw the most likely conclusion.
If we had to guess the price, we would go with 1-1, which is 13/2 with Ladbrokes. Considering the two sides playing, this is an excellent price and one you should certainly take advantage of!
