Boston Celtics vs New York Knicks: Current situation
This isn’t the first time the Celtics fell in love with the three-ball and allowed a team to come back from 20 points down to beat them. That’s been the main criticism of the defending champions for the past several seasons. They make the most threes per game in the NBA, but also take the most, so if the shot isn’t falling they have to find other ways to win games.
New York’s fairytale postseason continued with that win on Monday night. It was their 2nd win over the Celtics in 9 meetings and one of the most memorable comebacks in franchise history. If there’s one concerning thing for head coach Tom Thibodeau it’s the fact that Bridges played 51 minutes and 3 other starters logged 40+ minutes. Not a good sign for a team that’s got the worst bench in the NBA postseason right now.

On paper getting 23 points from both Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum with Derrick White chipping in with 19 looks good, but the Celtics just didn’t play as a unit in Game 1. Despite 19 offensive rebounds they ended the game with jus 18 assists, that tells us the ball movement just wasn’t there as they were flinging shots up from deep all night long.

Once again Jalen Brunson justified himself winning the Clutch player of the year award, coming up big down the stretch for the Celtics. The defense played by New York in Game 1 was just on a different level. They ended the game with 10 steals, forcing 13 turnovers by Boston. On top of that they had more assists and outscored the Cs inside the paint.

Betting tip and prediction: Boston Celtics vs New York Knicks (07.05.2025.)
The series opener was a collapse of epic proportions by the Boston Celtics who just couldn’t find a way to score the basketball other than shooting threes. The Cs finished the game shooting just 25% on 60 attempts, at one point in the 3rd quarter 19 of their 20 shot attempts came from beyond the arc. That simply cannot happen to a team that’s this experienced, head coach Joe Mazzulla has to take the bulk of the blame for failing to make adjustments on the fly. And it’s not like the Knicks shut down the paint with their stellar defending, the Celtics just settled for threes without even trying something different. Kristaps Porzingis was a major disappointment logging just 13 minutes and going scoreless, the only starter who shot 50% or better from the field was Jrue Holiday. The Knicks will be happy to win that series opener, it was their first win against one of Boston, Oklahoma City and Cleveland after going 0-12 SU against those 3 teams during the regular season. Once again Mr. Clutch came up big when it mattered the most as Jalen Brunson took over the game late. He also got a ton of help from OG Anunoby who had 29, but also Mikal Bridges who played lockdown defense for 51 minutes total. There’s zero pressure on the Knicks in Game 2, they are once again double-digit underdogs. Boston is likely going to make adjustments, so we recommend a different approach to this game. Let’s back the over for a change in Game 2.
