After a pair of dominant performances to start this series, Tyrese Haliburton laid an egg in Game 3 scoring just 4 points on 2-for-8 shooting to go along with his 5 assists. The Pacers turned to Bennedict Mathurin who led the way with 23 points, but the lead was as much as 26 for the Cavaliers at one point in what was a wire to wire defeat for Indiana.
Donovan Mitchell is just tearing the Pacers apart and they cannot do anything about it. He just had back-to-back 40+ point performances against them, improving his average to 33.6 points per game in the last 10 meetings. Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and De’Andre Hunter all returned from injury, that must feel very good for head coach Kenny Atkinson who struggled to find bodies in Game 2.

It was just an awful game to watch from an offensive perspective if you’re a Pacers fan.

Garland logged just 25 minutes and went 3-for-11 from the field, playing with his injured toe. The Cavaliers have no other choice but to play him here as the series almost got out of hand after Indiana won the first two road games. Evan Mobley had a solid impact on the game with 18 points and 13 rebounds, but Mitchell’s 43 points were the story of Game 3.

Game 3 showed us that this series is far from over. Cleveland just outhustled the Pacers and they are now back into the thick of things as we get settled for Game 4 on Sunday. We expect Indiana to make some adjustments defensively, primarily to slow down Donovan Mitchell who is playing on a different level right now. Tyrese Haliburton’s poor performance reflected on the rest of his teammates, his is the motor of this team and whenever he doesn’t have it going his teammates also suffer. Haliburton’s points per game average drops by almost 7 points in losses compared to wins this season, he also averaged less rebounds, less assists and shoots a drastically worse percentage in those games. So the math is quite simple for Indiana – get their main guy going early here and they’ll be in a good spot. Meanwhile, for the Cavaliers the hustle on the glass has to continue. It’s only a matter of time when their three-point shot will start falling and when that happens it’s game over for the Pacers. This team was 2nd only to the Milwaukee Bucks in three-point percentage during the regular season, once they get settled into this series it’ll be a wrap for Indiana. There’s just too much talent on this Cavaliers roster for us to ignore them in Game 4. I do not anticipate them letting this opportunity slip away, so let’s back the road team once again to level this series before we head back to Cleveland for Game 5.
