Oklahoma City Thunder vs Minnesota Timberwolves: Current situation
There was a lot of doubt that the young Thunder squad could handle the pressure of a Game 7, but they responded in a big way dominating the Denver Nuggets 125-93 on Sunday to clinch the series in their favor. It’s the first time in a decade that OKC is now in a Western Conference Final, most oddsmakers have them as the heavy favorite to win it all after eliminating Denver.
After resting for 5 days the Timberwolves are back in action. Their series against the Warriors ended earlier with them winning 4-1, facing very little resistance from Golden State apart from that Game 1 loss at home. The injury to Stephen Curry played a major part in the T’Wolves winning the next 4 games, but make no mistake about it, this team is for real.
Oklahoma City Thunder Stats & Form
If there was ever any doubt, with 35 points on 12-for-19 shooting in Game 7, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has now clinched the MVP award for this season. As a unit the Thunder pretty much dominated every facet of the game on Sunday, Jalen Williams stepped up in a big way with 24 points, while Alex Caruso added 11 off the bench and posted a +/- record of +40 when he was on the floor.
Minnesota Timberwolves Stats & Form
It was a total team effort by Minnesota in their Game 5 elimination of the Golden State Warriors. Julius Randle led the way scoring 29 points and grabbing 8 rebounds, while Anthony Edwards added 22 and 12 assists. As a team they shot an unreal 62.8% from the field and made almost 42% of their threes on 31 attempts. Turnovers were a problem though with 20, that’ll need to be fixed ahead of Tuesday’s series opener.
Oklahoma City Thunder vs Minnesota Timberwolves: Head-to-Head
The four regular season meetings were marked by high scoring with the point total going over 214.5 points in all 4 games. The two teams split the series with each team winning twice, interestingly enough the last 2 games were both won by the road team. This year was the 2nd season in a row in which neither team could win the regular season series.

Betting tip and prediction: Oklahoma City Thunder vs Minnesota Timberwolves (20.05.2025.)
Going into Game 1 the Timberwolves have a chance to surprise the Thunder, as they’ve played two extra games in their series against the Nuggets. The series opener might be the T’Wolves best chance of stealing one on the road, they’ve already won at Paycom Center once during the regular season. However, Anthony Edwards will have to step up his game as he averaged just 22.3 points per game in 4 regular season meetings with the Thunder, shooting the ball at 36% from the field and 31% from three. Meanwhile, on the Thunder side of things Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had a dominant regular season against the Timberwolves averaging 35 points per game, head coach Chris Finch will have to figure out a gameplan to slow him down. Minnesota’s biggest advantage coming into this series is experience as they’ve already been in this situation last year, only to lose to Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks in the Conference Finals. The series opener could go either way, but if we take fatigue into consideration we would lean slightly towards the Timberwolves in Game 1. Back the road team plus the extra points.
