Oklahoma City Thunder vs Denver Nuggets: Current situation
Foul trouble is what cost the game on Thursday for Oklahoma City as their best player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander collected 4 fouls in the first 3 quarters of play. It was the first time in his postseason history that had happened to him, without their best player it was hard to keep up with the energetic Nuggets the rest of the game and now we have ourselves a winner take all Game 7 on Sunday.
Coming into Game 6 Jamal Murray had an illness but it felt like nothing could stop the Nuggets from winning that game. In the end Murray had a very solid stat line while playing 42 minutes, however you have to wonder how much will he have in the tank for Sunday’s game given that it’s an early start and there’s less time to recover.

Despite the foul trouble SGA led all scorers with 32 points on 11-for-16 from the field, however only Chet Holmgren stepped up offensively in Game 6 scoring 19 points, while the rest of the team shot just 27% from three-point land. There were some positives to take from that defeat, the 11 steals show us that the Thunder were very active on defense, a similar approach would be welcome in Game 7 if you’re head coach Mike Daigneault.

Nikola Jokic didn’t take as many threes as we’re accustomed to seeing him in this series. Instead he stuck to his post game, finishing with 29 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assist on a very efficient 9-for-14 from the field. Christian Braun’s performance also deserves praise, he was the team’s 3rd leading scorer with 23 points and 11 rebounds.

For the 2nd consecutive series the Nuggets have gone the distance as they look to close it out in the 7th and final game vs Oklahoma City. However, if there’s one thing the Nuggets have the advantage over the Thunder at it’s their experience. OKC is yet to reach the West Finals as currently constructed, while the Nuggets have been there multiple times and have also won the NBA Championship back in 2023. Nikola Jokic has played in a total of 6 Game 7s in his career, posting elite numbers of 24.3 points, 15.5 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game. On the other hand SGA has just 1 Game 7 under his belt, from way back in 2020 when he had just 19 points against the Houston Rockets in a game in which the Thunder were eliminated. We are confident SGA will get his numbers in Game 7, but the question is will he get enough help from his Thunder teammates? It’s often been said that the Thunder are a one man show with the likes of Holmgren and Jalen Williams failing to live up to the task several times in the past. Denver is a more complete starting unit, not everything depends on Jokic when they win games. We feel like that gives a slight edge to Denver, so let’s go with the road team to cover here.
