Indiana Pacers vs Cleveland Cavaliers: Current situation
Tyrese Haliburton is becoming a superstar right before our very eyes. Voted as the most overrate player in an anonymous poll by The Athletic earlier this year, Haliburton has answered the call for the Pacers, especially in the clutch where he’s carried the team to a pair of very impressive comeback wins.
Cleveland’s dream season is just two losses away from ending and that’s certainly not something a lot of people expected two games into this series. Donovan Mitchell and co. have been hit by the injury bug at the worst possible time, now they have to win 4 of the next 5 games in order to advance to the next round.

Game 2 saw a comeback for the ages by the Pacers who were down by as many as 20 points at one point, but they refused to give up. All five starters once again scored in double figures, with Bennedict Mathurin providing the necessary help off the bench scoring 19 points. Although he had a modest 19 points and 9 rebounds, Haliburton’s three at the very end sealed the win for Indy as they took a commanding 2-0 lead in the series.

As soon as the news of Garland, Mobley and Hunter missing the game went out, we just knew Donovan Mitchell would have a massive game. The veteran shooting guard carried the team all night long scoring 48 points, relentlessly attacking the rim which resulted in 21 free throw attempts. He also got a pair of 20+ point games from Allen and Strus, but the rest of the team didn’t live up to the expectations and now Cleveland finds themselves in a difficult spot here.

The Cleveland Cavaliers find themselves in an extremely difficult situation here. The best team in the East during the regular season is down 2-0 after losing both home games, only five teams total in NBA history have come back to win a series under these circumstances. Losing Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and De’Andre Hunter really messed up the gameplan in Game 2 for head coach Kenny Atkinson, all 3 of those players are now listed as game-time decisions for Friday’s game so we still don’t know which Cavaliers team will show up. What we do know is that Donovan Mitchell will show up to play. The Cavs shooting guard had 48 in a losing effort in Game 2, he has had some tremendous performances against the Pacers over the past several seasons, for some odd reason Indiana is unable to match-up well against him. On the Pacers side of things there’s really no pressure coming into Game 3, although some analysists would argue that it’s a must win game given the strength of the Cavaliers and their ability to win games on the road. Powered by strong clutch play from Tyrese Haliburton, it’s hard to find any flaws of the Pacers game right now, they were 29-11 SU at Gainbridge Fieldhouse during the regular season. However, oddsmakers still don’t have much faith in them, they are underdogs for the 3rd game in a row in this series. With so much uncertainty surrounding Cleveland’s starting unit, we would feel a lot comfortable backing Indiana here. Take the Pacers as home underdogs.
