Minnesota Timberwolves vs Golden State Warriors: Current situation
Anthony Edwards and co. wanted all the smoke asking for the Golden State Warriors and now they’ve got them. Losing Game 1 will be a good wake-up call for the young Timberwolves who are trying to return to the Western Conference Finals for the 2nd year in a row. In order to do so though, they’ll have to win at least one road game in this series.
The injury to Stephen Curry forced head coach Steve Kerr into playing a lot more players off the bench than he thought he would pre-game. Players like Gui Santos, Quinten Post and Pat Spencer all got minutes as the Warriors shot under 40% from the field and still won that game. It’ll be interesting to monitor what Kerr prepares for Game 2 without his best player.
Minnesota Timberwolves Stats & Form
Only 5 threes made on 29 attempts is simply not going to cut it at this stage of the postseason. Minnesota’s effort was also in question as they lost the rebounding battle 51-41, allowing 18 offensive rebounds to the Warriors. Rudy Gobert laid an egg with jus 9 points and 11 rebounds in 26 minutes, after having a career high 24 rebounds in the closeout game vs the Lakers.
Golden State Warriors Stats & Form
Jimmy Butler once again showed why the Warriors traded for him finishing Game 1 with a near triple double of 20 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. He got a lot of help from Buddy Hield who had 24 points, including 5 threes made, to go along with his 8 rebounds. The veteran Draymond Green also chipped in with 18 points, it was his highest scoring game since mid-March when he had 21 vs the Raptors.
Minnesota Timberwolves vs Golden State Warriors: Head-to-Head
Counting the series opener these two teams have now played each other 5 times this year, if we take into account the regular season. It was the first time they locked horns since the Jimmy Butler trade went down and also the lowest scoring game with just 187 points scored.

Betting tip and prediction: Minnesota Timberwolves vs Golden State Warriors (08.05.2025.)
The main headline from Game 1 wasn’t the Warriors upset win, it was in fact the injury to Stephen Curry who strained his hamstring which could sideline him for an extended period of time. We still don’t know the extent of the injury, but there is zero chance Steph plays in Game 2 for Golden State. Now, that might not be a blow in the short term, but in the long run if Curry isn’t at 100% the Warriors become just a regular team. For only the 2nd time this year the Timberwolves finished a game under 100 points, both times it happened during the postseason. Anthony Edwards once again was a disappointment going just 9-for-22 en route to 23 points, he has now made just 1 of 16 threes over his last 2 games. As a team the Timberwolves are shooting just 15.7% from three in last 2 outings, if you’re Golden State that must feel really good because the Warriors have really stepped up their perimeter defense holding opponents to under 30% efficiency in their last 3 games. However, is that strategy sustainable moving forward if Curry isn’t able to play? Game 2 will be all about energy and adjustments for the Timberwolves, as we saw with the Cavaliers going down 2-0 in their East semi final series, Minnesota needs to avoid that scenario at all cost here. This has been a match-up very favorable to the Warriors, but Curry’s injury changes everything. We are backing Minnesota in Game 2 to even this thing out.
