Betting Tip 62

Both Senegal and Algeria were fortunate to make it to the final after they beat Tunisia and Nigeria in the semis. The Lions of Teranga failed to convert from the penalty spot in the second half following Tunisia’s penalty miss, but Dylan Bronn’s own-goal won the game for Senegal in extra time. Algeria, on the other hand, sealed the 2-1 victory over Nigeria in the dying moments of the game as Riyad Mahrez scored from a direct free-kick.

Senegal Team News and Latest Form

Hunting their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations trophy, Senegal take on 1990 winners Algeria after a series of tight tournament games that saw only one team score in each of Senegal’s six AFCON fixtures. Five of those matches produced under 2.5 goals, and four finished by a 1-0 scoreline (W3, L1 – including extra-time).

Don’t be fooled by that low-scoring nature though. The 2002 AFCON runners-up have attracted plenty of drama, with five penalties awarded – four of them missed – and two red cards across their last four games alone.

Despite missing two penalties, Sadio Mané remains in the running for the Golden Boot with three goals. Of the goals Senegal have conceded since the beginning of 2018, 72.73% arrived after half-time.

Algeria Team News and Latest Form

Sadio Mane Senegal
Sadio Mane (Senegal) against Algeria’s player during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations

Algeria enter this final unbeaten in the tournament, winning every match in 90 minutes except a victory on penalties in the quarter-finals. Their quick-starting displays have seen them lead at half-time in five of their six AFCON fixtures – the last three by a 1-0 scoreline – albeit the only one they didn’t, was against Senegal during the group stage (0-0 half-time).

The Desert Warriors have also seen an average of 2.0 total yellow cards before half-time this tournament so that early drama could be possible here. Furthermore, with Algeria witnessing a penalty in their last two fixtures, and an average of 2.57 total goals being scored across the seven competitive H2Hs played since the turn of the century, this game has the makings of a must-watch final.

Just like Mane, Riyad Mahrez also has three – two came as the last goalscorer of the match. Algeria have opened the scoring in nine of their previous 11 AFCON tournament fixtures – the two they didn’t, were the only two they lost during that period.

Senegal v Algeria Head to Head

Senegal and Algeria have met ten times since 1990, and the Desert Warriors are leading in all-time H2H encounters with five victories; Senegal have three while two games ended without a winner. Algeria were a better side when the rivals faced at this AFCON as Youcef Belaili scored the game’s only goal in the 49th minute. Both teams have scored in exactly half of the historical competitive H2H duels.

Betting Odds and Predictions: Senegal vs Algeria

The bookies are somewhat undecided who should be the favourite of this tilt as most of them gave the same chances to both Senegal and Algeria. Betfair offered the 9/5 odds on all three full-time outcomes, but if you are going to back a draw, it is best to go with bet365 who gave 2/1 odds. In case you are backing over 2.5 goals, Betfair is the place to go at 15/8 while Bwin is offering 4/9 odds on under 2.5 goals.

Our Senegal vs Algeria Betting Tip

Algeria displayed the best performances at this AFCON thus far, but Senegal conceded only one goal at the tournament, and it was against the Desert Warriors in the group stage. We’re talking about two best defences at this year’s competition, and it’s going to be extremely hard to predict a winner here. We cannot separate these sides at the moment, and that’s why our Senegal vs Algeria Africa Cup of Nations 2019 betting tip is a draw at 19/10 with Bwin.
