The first round of the 2019 European Open in Hamburg brings a great match between Nicolas Jarry and the 2nd-seeded Alexander Zverev. These two guys will meet for the third time this year, splitting the previous two duels, and Jarry will try to beat Zverev in his hometown on this one.

Nicolas Jarry News & Form

The 23-year old Chilean just won his first ATP title in a career, defeating Juan Londero in the championship match in Bastad on Sunday. Jarry had a wonderful week, winning all his five matches in straight sets to fully deserve the trophy.

After a big success at the Swedish Open, Jarry reached his career-high World No. 38 at the ATP Rankings. He has a 19-15 record in 2019, while Jarry is 14-7 on the clay court this season. Interestingly, Nicolas is 2-2 against the top-10 players this year and 4-3 in his career. One of those four wins came against his next rival.

Alexander Zverev News & Form

Alexander Zverev
Alexander Zverev (GER) at the Citi Open tennis tournament on August 5, 2017 in Washington DC

The 22-year old German took a two-week break following a disappointing first-round exit at Wimbledon. Zverev lost three of his last five matches overall and will be glad to return on clay, for sure. He won one title this season, and it was in Geneva on the clay court.

Zverev has a 25-14 record in 2019, while he’s 13-7 on the clay court. Sascha is 71-31 on clay in his career, winning five of his 11 trophies on the slowest surface. Also, he reached the quarterfinals at Rolan Garros where Novak Djokovic was too much for the World No. 5. Still, Zverev finished the job in straight sets just four times in his last 11 wins.

Jarry vs Zverev Head to Head

This will be the third duel between Nicolas Jarry and Alexander Zverev. As I’ve mentioned, the previous two occurred this season on the clay courts. Jarry defeated Zverev 3-6 7-5 7-6 in the round of 16 in Barcelona, while Sascha bounced back in the championship match in Geneva also in three sets 6-3 3-6 7-6.

Betting Odds and Predictions: Jarry v Zverev

Alexander Zverev is a 4/9 favourite with Ladbrokes and William Hill, while Nicolas Jarry is a 7/4 underdog on the same platforms. Zverev is available at 11/10 odds to win in straight sets with Betway, and the price on Jarry to earn a set is 13/20 with William Hill.

Although Zverev is a top 5 player, the bookies are well aware of Jarry’s excellent form. Hereof, Betfair offers a 23.5-game line with the over at even odds and the under at 8/11 odds. The price on exactly three sets in the total is 26/19 with Coral.

Our Jarry vs Zverev Hamburg 2019 European Open Betting Tip

Alexander Zverev obviously needs to boost his self-confidence, and the best way is to beat Nicolas Jarry in front of the home fans. Zverev will play in his hometown which should be a crucial factor. Despite Nicolas’ excellent form, I’m taking Zverev to win the match at 4/9 odds with Ladbrokes or William Hill.

Betting on the game totals is always a tricky job in matches like this one, especially with the line at 23.5 games. If you want greater wages, take Zverev to win the first set and a match at 8/11 with Betfair.
