Minnesota Timberwolves vs Oklahoma City Thunder: Current situation
For the first time this postseason the Timberwolves have lost back-to-back games and it couldn’t come at a worse time for them. Their backs are now against the wall, not because they lost, but because of the level of dominance displayed by the Thunder in those two games. Minnesota has never won a series when trailing 2-0 in the postseason, losing the first 3 times this has happened.
Receiving the MVP award in front of a packed Paycom Center must have felt good for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. He had one of his best postseason games, tying a career high with 38 points while also dishing out 8 assists. Minnesota seemingly has no answer for him in this series, it’ll be interesting to see if their approach on defending him changes in the two games at Target Center as he’s now scored 30+ points against them in 4 straight games.
Minnesota Timberwolves Stats & Form
After averaging 27.2 points per game in his previous 5 games, Julius Randle had a game to forget on Thursday finishing with just 6 points on 2-for-11 from the field. The Timberwolves could just never get going in Game 2, they were down by as many as 24 points at one point, if you’re a Wolves fan there are reasons to be very concerned heading into Game 3.
Oklahoma City Thunder Stats & Form
Thursday’s game was SGA’s 14th career playoff game with at least 30 points and 5 assists, he now has 58 games of 30+ points this year which ties a franchise record for a season. In 6 meetings with the Timberwolves this year he is averaging 34.8 points per game, Minnesota just cannot figure out how to contain him.
Minnesota Timberwolves vs Oklahoma City Thunder: Head-to-Head
After the two teams split the four regular season meetings, it has been all Oklahoma City in this series with back-to-back double-digit wins. Although they haven’t covered the spread in 5 consecutive road games, they’re still favorites in Saturday’s game at Target Center. Out of the last 9 meetings vs Minnesota, the Thunder have won 6 of them.

Betting tip and prediction: Minnesota Timberwolves vs Oklahoma City Thunder (23.05.2025.)
Don’t look now but the Minnesota Timberwolves are in trouble. Game 2 saw them lose once again without any resistance whatsoever, getting outscored 118-103. And that’s worrying considering they got 32 points out of Anthony Edwards and scored 15 points more as a team. Ant Man almost outdid his point total from Game 1 as he started the game very aggressive on Thursday, piling up 16 points through the first 24 minutes. However, similarly to Game 1 none of his teammates was able to step up. Jaden McDaniels did have 22 points, but outside of him the team shot just 41% from three and 28% from downtown. Through the first two games of this series Minnesota has shot the three-ball 26-for-90, which is close to what Boston shot in their first two games of the Knicks series (25-for-100), ultimately costing them the series. It’s quite clear that a completely different approach will be needed in Game 3 as this series moves to Target Center. As we said earlier in our previews, Game 3 is the best chance of Minnesota getting a win in this series, having the home crowd behind them should level the playing field a bit. If you are Oklahoma City there’s really no reason to change things up. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander received the MVP award prior to tip-off and then proceeded to show everyone why he is worthy of winning it. Together with Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams who scored 22 and 26 points respectively, SGA destroyed Minnesota with 38 points and 8 assists. Game 3 is a do-or-die situation for Minnesota, we have them coming out on top just because they’re playing at home. Back Anthony Edwards and co. to win here.
