Lancashire Oaks 2019 Main Contenders

Enbihaar

Three of the last eight winners of the Lancashire Oaks have been John Gosden-trained four-year-olds and Enbihaar looks to have every chance of making it four out of nine. She beat the re-opposing Klassique on identical terms on her seasonal debut over a similar trip and didn’t appear to quite stay 14-furlongs when beaten by the re-opposing Dramatic Queen last time at York. Today’s trip looks ideal and she looks sure to go close.

Dramatic Queen

William Haggas-trained four-year-old that is officially rated 1lb higher than Enbihaar after beating that filly at York over 14-furlongs, but she appeared to need most of that longer trip to get her head in front. She has won at today’s trip in lesser company, but it’s notable that her other best performance also came over a longer trip. Despite that, she looks sure to fight out the finish if running her race.

Klassique

Another four-year-old filly trained by William Haggas, and this one is rated 1lb higher than her stablemate Dramatic Queen after turning over the odds-on True Self over course and distance last time. That win came on heavy ground but, though she’s won on faster ground, she does have 1¾ lengths to find with Enbihaar from when they met at Goodwood earlier in the season.

Highgarden

This daughter of Nathaniel is a possible second runner for John Gosden, and she’s only rated 1lb behind stablemate Enbihaar. However, she was beaten by a horse called Bayshore Freeway on her seasonal debut and that horse only finished third behind Dramatic Queen and Enbihaar at York.

Nyaleti

Officially rated the same as Enbihaar, but she was beaten by a filly rated 5lb lower than her off level-weights last time. That was over 10-furlongs, and she probably needs the step-up to 12-furlongs for the first time to bring about some improvement.

Lancashire Oaks 2019 Summary

Only 3lb separates Nyaleti, Highgarden, Klassique, Dramatic Queen, and Enbihaar on official ratings, but several form-lines suggest that Dramatic Queen and Enbihaar just have the edge over their rivals. Dramatic Queen just came out on top when they met over 14-furlongs, but Enbihaar is expected to take her revenge over this shorter trip, especially as John Gosden targets this race so successfully.
