Gomez on the Hammers Shopping List

Gomez on the Hammers Shopping List

West Ham had an inconsistent season in the Premier League but managed to finish in 10th place, just 2 points off 8th place Everton.

Manuel Pellegrini will be keen to build on that next season and move further into the top half of the table.  The first port of call will be to keep Declan Rice but the manager will also want to strengthen the squad.

Andy Carroll, Samir Nasri and Adrian have been released by West Ham and uncertainty over the future of Marko Arnautovic remains.  West Ham would like to have a reliable goal scorer in their team next season who can stay fit and focused.

Maxi Gomez

Their search for that striker may take them to La Liga and Celta Vigo.  It was a tough season in Spain for Celta Vigo as they finished one place above the relegation zone.  Iago Aspas is seen as their star man and the Spanish international scored 20 goals this season.

However, West Ham have their eye on another Celta Vigo striker and his name is Maxi Gomez.  The Uruguayan joined from Defensor Sporting in 2017 and scored 17 goals last season.  He netted 13 times in what was a tough second season and at just 22 years of age, clearly has a bright future in the game.

Celta Vigo have already lined up another forward to come in from Uruguay this summer and it appears they have accepted they will not be able to hold on to Gomez.

West Ham Favourites

Gomez is seen by many in Uruguay as the successor to Luiz Suarez in the national team and he is a strong centre-forward.  His strength makes him ideal for the Premier League and with a good scoring record, he could become a great player for a team like West Ham.

The bookmakers make the Hammers favourites to sign Gomez from Celta Vigo this summer at 7/4 with Betfair.

Liverpool Linked

With the possibility of both Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge leaving Liverpool this summer, Klopp will need to recruit a new striker . However, that player will need to be willing to spend some time on the bench with the front three at Liverpool unlikely to be dislodged by anyone who comes into the club.

Gomez is young and has time on his side.  Any player would be tempted by a move to Liverpool at this moment in time and Gomez is priced at 6/1 with Ladbrokes to make that move this summer.

Other Contenders

There are teams in La Liga who would like to see Gomez remain in Spain.  Atletico Madrid are losing Antoine Griezmann this summer and Gomez could come in to work with fellow South American, Diego Simeone.

However, Barcelona are also looking for reinforcements in attack and if they don’t land Griezmann, they may turn their attention to Gomez.  He may like to link up with Suarez at club level and Gomez is 13/2 to move to Barcelona this summer, with Atletico Madrid available at 10/3, both with Betfair.
