Japan vs Poland | Prediction, Betting Tips & Odds

Japan come into their final Group H match in a strong position, needing just a single point against bottom side Poland to guarantee their place in the last 16. The Asian side could also potentially qualify with a loss, but that would be reliant upon Senegal beating Colombia in the other match. Poland were the favourites to top this group before the World Cup began, but back to back defeats to Senegal and Colombia have seen them eliminated. Poland have enough quality to beat this Japan side on Thursday, but it remains to be seen just how motivated they will be.

Match Preview

On the final day of group matches at this summer’s World Cup in Russia, Japan will go head-to-head with Poland, as they hunt for the three points that would confirm their qualification as group winners. Opponents Poland have been one of the biggest disappointments during the competition to date, however they have players capable of causing problems on their day, meaning that it could well be a nervy 90 minutes for the dedicated home team. For those still unsure of who to back ahead of kick-off, it is well worth checking out our top betting tip below. However, let’s first take a closer look at the two teams, starting with Japan.

Japan News & Form

Japan came back from behind twice in order to claim a point against Senegal last time around, adding to their opening victory over Colombia in Group H. Despite having been backed to struggle in Russia, Japan have answered their critics in fine style so far, with the likes of Shinji Kagawa, Yuya Osaka and Yūto Nagatomo in particular having impressed for the Blue Samurai. Head Coach Akira Nishino has got his side playing an entertaining brand of football, however they will undoubtedly have to show their defensive resolve against Poland on Thursday.

Poland News & Form

Poland have lost to both Senegal and Colombia so far in Group H, conceding five goals in the process, while scoring just once. Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski will be hoping to open his World Cup account against Japan, with the European’s having so far failed to reach anywhere near their top form in Russia.

Panama vs Tunisia Head to Head

The two nations have met just twice in the past, with Japan having come out on top on both occasions. Japan ran out 2-0 winners in a friendly encounter back in March 2002, however with no matches having taken place between the duo since this date, few conclusions can be made ahead of kick-off surrounding their head-to-head record.

Panama vs Tunisia Odds and Predictions

This is an absolutely huge game for Japan, and whilst Poland have nothing more than pride left to play for, they still have enough quality to hurt this Japanese side. I think this game could go either way and it could be a tough game for Japan in terms of approach. All they need to do is draw the game, but if they set up to draw the game, they could well end up losing it. I actually think Poland will win this game and I’m backing Lewandowski to finally make a mark on this World Cup.

The bookies have priced this game up very closely, with Japan starting the match as slight favourites at odds of 8/5, whilst a win for Poland is priced up at 7/4, with the draw available at 11/5. I’m backing Poland to upset the odds and win this game on Thursday and so the 7/4 odds on that look very tempting to me. There has been over 2.5 goals in every group game so far in Group H and therefore, Poland to win and over 1.5 goals at 27/10 looks like a superb bet to me. Lewandowski has failed to find the net so far in the tournament, but after scoring 16 goals in qualifying I’m backing him to score at anytime in this game at odds of 5/4.

Our Top Betting Tip: “under 2.5 goals ”

However, our top betting tip for the match is to bet on under 2.5 goals being scored during the 90 minutes in Volgograd, a market is available at a best price of 8/11 with 888Sport.
