England get their Euro 2020 campaign underway when they take on Croatia at Wembley Stadium on June 12. England vs Croatia: Team Form

Both teams qualified for Euro 2020 after finishing top of their respective groups. England suffered just one defeat from their eight matches in Group A, scoring 37 goals in the process. The Three Lions have since made a 100% winning start to their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign, with a 2-1 victory against Poland at Wembley being their last outing.

Croatia finished top of Group E, ahead of the likes of Wales, Slovakia and Hungary. Despite scoring just 17 goals in their campaign, their only defeat came away in Hungary. They have been beaten by the likes of Sweden, Portugal and Slovenia since then, demonstrating that Croatia are perhaps not the force they were in 2018.

England vs Croatia: Team News

The core of England’s starting XI is already known by manager Southgate, with the likes of Harry Kane, Harry Maguire and Declan Rice seeming guaranteed starters, fitness dependent. The likes of Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount, Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling, Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish also give Southgate a selection headache in attacking positions.
Croatia will turn to the experience of Luka Modric, Dejan Lovren and Ivan Rakitic, while Ivan Perisic scored against England at the World Cup in 2018. Attack will potentially be an area of concern for Head Coach Zlatko Dalić, with Ante Rebic and Andrej Kramarić having never been prolific at international level. In his last squad, Dalić selected just two players under the age of 24, demonstrating the experience in which Croatia have.

The two countries were then drawn together in the UEFA Nations League in 2018. The match in Croatia ended goalless, however England ran out 2-1 winners in the reverse fixture. In all, England has won 5 of their 10 previous meetings with Croatia, drawing two.
